There is no doubt that children are the age group that most enjoy the outdoors and the sun on vacation. As long as there is sun they are all the time playing, swimming, running, in the yard, the pool, and wherever they allow them. Yesterday, in an amusement park, the protective cream for the skin of children was the protagonist. It seems that many parents are already aware of the need to protect their children's skin.
What little is said about is the serious problems that the sun can cause to the eyes and vision of children. That is why the Spanish Association of Pediatrics (AEP), once again insists on the use of approved sunglasses for children, to avoid serious problems such as long-term vision loss.
In the same way that the sun can cause skin burns, it can also affect the ocular surface of children, leading to complications such as burns, cataracts and wear of the eyes, which can lead to loss of vision. Remember that the level of ultraviolet radiation during the summer months is up to three times higher than during the winter. To avoid injury and protect children from the harmful effects of the sun's rays, pediatricians recommend wearing sunglasses.
The aesthetics, that is, the model and the color, and even the price, are not so important factors when choosing glasses. What it is about is protecting children's vision, and that depends only on the quality of the lenses, crystals and filter they carry. Ideally, it should be between 99 and 100% against UVA and UVB stripes. In addition to glasses, the use of a cap with a visor is also recommended, even for cloudy days, as preventive measures. And finally, it should be remembered that the injuries caused by the sun are cumulative, which makes the tissues retain the doses of sunlight on the skin and in the eyes. Eye to the sun, but with glasses.
